During the L4D series it has always been nearly unbearable to play in public lobbies or joining public lobbies unless you were playing with your friends because you’d run across an array of “no-micers,” death racers or just all around bad players who don’t help the team and only try to help themselves. With the coming of Left 4 Dead 2 this truth really still hasn’t changed. The worst time is when you and a friend are teamed up to a pair of no microphone split-screeners in which you will not be able to kick.
I know there are some great players and teams that will frequent this blog so I ask of you: how do you play to compete at a high level in Left 4 Dead 2? Do you play in Gamebattles? Another online league? How often do you practice together? How do you practice together?
Leave your comments and tips here to help those that are new to the game or just can’t put it together.

I certainly understand your frustration. Unfortunately I have solution to this problem. Mainly because there are too many bad players out there. Also because I have very few friends that play left 4 dead. The best thing for a new player to do is play single player campaign for each campaign at least once so you can become familiar with them. Especially if you’re new to the game. After you become familiar with the campaigns then would be a good time to venture online with badplayers. Just to make it clear by bad players I mean players who don’t help their teammates, who venture off ahead by themselves on the levels, or players who just don’t excerise good common sense. It often helps your play if you pretend you’re playing a COD type of 1st person shooter game. I often take my play more seriously then. If anyone is interested my xbox live screen name is asapp16.
Get used to it, pussy.
If you don’t like a match, then leave and find a new one. If you are too lazy to do that, then that is just going to have to suck for you.
@Anonymous – I am happy you have found our blog, but I believe you may have missed the point either one of us were trying to make.
@Anthony – Thank you for reading and letting us know your thoughts! Sorry for the slow response due to the holidays! There are players of varying levels, and unfortunately for most the better players tend to only play with the better players making it harder for the lesser experienced/skilled to get better or learn some trade secrets.
I would certainly love to see more of the “common” L4D2 players spend more time working together to compete at a high level, or if Valve could implement something to reward those that do play through or sort of “punish” those that don’t play through matches because no one gets better (even rage quitters) if they keep leaving because they’re losing after two maps.
I got wrecked early on in L4D1 but played through most times because I wanted to ask the better players how they got better so I got better. Surprisingly most were willing to talk about a few things to help.
Gamebattles. Or we’ll do friends-only random matches, or friends-only captain draft wtfever.
