New Left 4 Dead 2 patch released for Xbox 360

A new Left 4 Dead 2 patch for the Xbox 360 has been released in the early morning of December 22, 2009. It has not yet been confirmed on everything that it has changed, but the most notable of changes is to the scoring system.

Incapacitation bonuses have been removed from Versus scoring completely. Now there is a 25 point tie-breaker bonus awarded to the team with the highest Infected damage in the event of both teams reaching the safe room. There have been mixed reactions, and it is also odd this has come without a formal announcement as it seems most if not all the things that were previously announced have not been addressed with this latest update.

The changes seem to marginalize the importance of infected play for purposes of simplifying the game for, while increasing the value of the survivor round. I feel like the change could be an ideological change from Valve, their way of saying “Survivors should be the stars of the game!” It serves to emphasize the idea that the point of the game is to get the Survivors to safe rooms, that’s how you WIN. Yes, infected are still a super-important part of the game, but you can’t WIN by just playing infected, instead, you do your best to NOT LOSE by denying points to the other team.

I don’t know. The scoring system seems so clunky anyway it’s hard to really complain about what is really a minor change to a broken mechanic. However, I can confidently say that the jockey stumble reduction is bullshit. (Really? THAT’S the infected that you needed to nerf?)

@JLobes Good response. The jockey stumble is a little ridiculous to nerf. The incap bonus gave a chance for teams to gain a little bigger lead and get a bigger reward when you get a stop so I’m not a fan of getting nothing when you do make a stop. I don’t know. I’m on the fence. I think the incap bonus was better. Thank you for reading and keep in touch.
